In the early hours of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, a factory fire erupted in Ga-Rankuwa Zone 15, prompting an immediate response from the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department.
City of Tswhane Acting Public Information and Liaison Officer Lindsay Zwelithini Mnguni, said the emergency communication center received the first report of the blaze at approximately 04:46 AM. In response, multiple firefighting units were dispatched from Rosslyn, Mabopane, Temba, and Wonderboom Fire Stations. The response team included two fire engines, a water carrier, a water tanker, and a rapid intervention unit, among other support units.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the warehouse fully engulfed in flames, with parts of the iron-structured building already collapsed. The factory was involved in various operations, including furniture production, charcoal storage, and vehicle maintenance.
Fire suppression efforts were initiated promptly, and by 07:30 AM, the fire was under control and extinguished. However, damping down operations continued until around 3:00 PM to ensure the area was safe for departure.
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department praised the coordinated efforts of its firefighting crews and supporting units for their swift action in preventing further damage. They successfully salvaged some vehicles and furniture from destruction and contained the fire to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The department also expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies, including the Tshwane Metro Police Department and the South African Police Service, for their ongoing support during the incident.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The public is reminded to report any fire or rescue incidents by calling 107 toll-free or 012 358 6300/6400.
