The stench that comes out of this drain is unberable to the community and the City has not attended to the problem

The community of Hebron is suffering due to burst sewerage/drain at Matshelapata – Snake Park section in Hebron.

Mr Katlego Bonoko, the spokesperson of Save Madibeng, said the drain burst on 15 September 2021 and has not been attended to since.

“The community approached the Ward 15 Councilor candidate, Mr Saver Basimane Pooe, to intervene and he sent the complaint to the Executive Director as well as the Office of the Mayor of the City of Tshwane and have been awaiting a response since then,”  said Mr Bonoko.

The burst drain has affected the community negatively as people pass there daily to work, school and shopping.

A concerned resident said children and other members of the community are getting sick from inhaling the waste that comes out of the drain.

It is not known what caused the burst but the spokesperson said he assumes the burst may have been caused by the backflow of waste since the waste management center in Klipgat has not been operating for years.

Mr Pooe said the village does not have any functioning sewerage system and people have to tolerate the stench that comes out of the drain.

“The City of Tshwane needs to attend to this problem urgently because the stench is unbearable to residents,” said Mr Pooe.
