Local comedy favourite Thapelo Seemise, popularly known as Shampoonaiza, brought laughter and energy back to his hometown with a highly anticipated edition of the #ShampoonaizaComedyShow at Cafe Sphettino in Ga-Rankuwa.
Held on the Workers’ Day public holiday, May 1st, the show drew a lively crowd eager for an afternoon of top-tier local humour. True to his promise of delivering quality entertainment after years away, Shampoonaiza pulled out all the stops with strong acts, including legendary comedian Ronnie Modimola (known from the Pure Monate Show) and the hilarious Jay Boogie. DJ Tzee and DJ Ask kept the vibes high on the decks throughout the event.
Organisers offered free entry, with early birds enjoying specials courtesy of the sponsors. Attendees described the afternoon as unforgettable.
“I thought, let me share my May Day with my people—the ones who helped shape me and those I grew up alongside,” Shampoonaiza said about bringing the show back home. “I also wanted a reality check from the people who’ve known me the longest—to see whether I’m still heading in the right direction or if I’m becoming pompous.”
Born and raised in Ga-Rankuwa, Shampoonaiza has built a solid reputation as one of Pretoria’s favourite sports comedians and MCs. The show marked a triumphant homecoming, reminding fans why his relatable, high-energy brand of comedy continues to resonate so strongly in the township. According to Shampoonaiza, the event was grounded in three key pillars: “Respect, mental health, and Black excellence.”
Bringing the show back to his hometown after many years, Shampoonaiza delivered an unforgettable experience alongside his exceptional line-up. The vibrant atmosphere at Café Sphettino echoed with laughter as people from Ga-Rankuwa, Hebron, and surrounding areas came out in full support.
He also shared words of encouragement for the youth, saying, “Thank you very much for standing behind me. I hope some of the kids from around here will be inspired to do something like this. Crime is not the way.”
The event proved a resounding success, with supporters from across Ga-Rankuwa showing love for their hometown star and enjoying an afternoon filled with genuine, heartfelt laughter.
