On August 24, Tshwane’s Mayoral Committee marked a key milestone at the Rosslyn Hub, the launch of the approximately 9,700 m² convenience retail development, which forms part of the broader 100-hectare Rosslyn Hub precinct within the Tshwane Automotive City (TAC).
The project underscores confidence in public-private partnerships that turn plans into tangible economic opportunities. Anchored by Shoprite and featuring a 70% national tenant mix, The Yard will bring everyday retail closer to residents and workers in Rosslyn while supporting local enterprise.

Rosslyn sits at the heart of the TAC, linked to major manufacturers including BMW, Chery, Iveco and Tata. The TAC has the potential to attract roughly R500 billion in investment over 50 years, with priority nodes estimated at R42 billion and the capacity to create nearly 60 000 jobs over 15 years. More than R1 billion has already been secured in bulk infrastructure, generating over 1 400 construction jobs. The wider precinct plans approximately 700 000 m² of mixed-use space encompassing housing, logistics, retail, healthcare, education and hospitality. Around 1,100 homes have been delivered, with a further 1,180 apartments planned, alongside Spark Rosslyn Hub Primary School. A R670 million investment by YFPO further signals international confidence in the area.
Improved infrastructure and retail access reduce the burden of daily travel. Construction and future operational jobs offer employment pathways for local residents. Expanded housing, education facilities and economic activity can stimulate small businesses, strengthen supply chains and create spill-over opportunities in neighbouring communities, helping ensure growth reaches ordinary people across greater Tshwane.
These developments aligned with the Tshwane Economic Revitalisation Strategy’s 3.9% growth target by 2029. For surrounding areas such as Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve, and Akasia, the benefits are practical and immediate.
